So how did you guys become web design experts?
JME WEB DESIGN: Welcome to our first ever blog! I know exciting isn’t it?
So first let me introduce myself my name is Jadon Willetts and I am the Creative Director at JME Web Design.
My first formal qualification was a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners Level 2 which I gained from Halesowen College. While there I learned the basics of HTML and CSS, as well as ways to create UX interfaces to allow people to see a pretty design on the front end. My passion for web design was very strong, although I had a disadvantage as many tools such as WordPress were not around or common knowledge to me at the time. Instead I had the joy of using Dreamweaver and fighting through loads of horrible code, only to gain a mediocre result. This of course dampened my passion, and lead me to purse a career in Computer Game Design at Wolverhampton University.
On my journey to University I struggled as every teenager will to find my calling in the world of employment and knew that from previous seasonal and part time work, I didn’t want to spend my life in a job where I felt like I had no purpose and was drowning in a sea of pessimism.
Hearing God’s Voice!
Being a born again Christian from the age of 16 (I believe this has helped define our values as a company), I sort advice from the big man upstairs in order to understand my purpose and what I was meant to do with my life. The next part many will try to explain away with a logical reason or answer, however I don’t believe in coincidence and have experienced so many spiritual phenomena’s in my life that I was in no position to even begin to deny the existence of a higher being!
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11The most amazing truth! A loving father who wants what’s best!
He Had a Plan But Was it Web Design?
I spent a lot of time praying the evening before my open day at University, asking Jesus to ‘please just give me a sign that this is meant to be’, I remember the day well, it was a nerve racking experience we were taken around as a group (no one from my college choose the path of university or had plans to move as far from their parents as possible! lol), and given the grand tour of the University of Wolverhampton. We started from the main entrance seeing the university shop first, then seeing the sports facilities on offer; the squash courts the gym etc. After checking out the student union and meeting a few alumni and current students, we continued in to the library the place is huge!
The only thing that saved me from the waffling of the librarians about the various books and topics was the lingering thought still dwelling on my mind, ‘where is this sign Lord’. I briefly turned my attention away from the person speaking for a brief second and bam! there it was on the shelf, in plain sight, was the most slap in the face sign!
Out of all of the thousands of book stored in that huge building was the a book entitled ‘The Book of Genesis’ right there staring me in the face, in the spot I was standing!
The Second Sign
We later checked out the halls of residence and the dungeon-esque excuses for living quarters! The rooms were tiny and bare only containing a bed, bedside table, desk and chair. At my surprise there was one other thing in the room, and the next sign God wanted me to see, right there on the bed side table was The Holy Bible!
I couldn’t deny that the two things happened by coincidence, so I got my name down as a BA Hons Computer Games Design student and what happened after that couldn’t have been a more different path to the web design I do today!
